Operation Christmas Child has become a special tradition for my family. Every year, our family spends time packing hand-wrapped boxes full of items that we collect all year for kids in other countries. We always make sure to include: a picture of our family (with our address on the back), a stuffed animal, and candy. Sometimes, we even stuff our box full of items for boys or girls as we have been told that often times the kids will open up the boxes and share with kids who did not receive the boxes.
After we have packed the boxes, we always pray over them that everyone in the family of the child who receives it will receive Christ. Over the years we have received many letters thanking us for the gifts. When our kids were young, they used to ask us: “How can this be their only gift? What about their Santa presents? ” As they have gotten older, they have come to understand just how impactful and special this box is and that likely this is the kids’ only present that they might ever receive! It is small box with small items. But it comes with an eternal message, and I am quite confident that one day we will meet many of these children in heaven–that will be a day!
In His name,
