On a beautiful October morning recently, over 170 children, teenagers, college students and adults gathered in Central’s Activities Center to pray, prepare, and then poured out into the city for Beyond Our Walls, Central’s effort to express radical servanthood and the love of Christ with our community. Beyond Our Walls is a twice-a-year event, but the work that is done and the relationships that are built continue year round.
This time, our church reached out to 13 different sites throughout Fayetteville. People helped at Genesis Church, serving the Saturday morning community meals and improving the grounds. Others went to LifeStyles where they did some landscaping and hosted a pizza party for the residents. Still others went to individuals’ homes and worked for some people who can’t get out much, doing odd jobs and enjoying conversation. And dozens of volunteers went to three different apartment complexes, where they set up bouncy houses, grilled burgers and hot dogs, painted faces and pumpkins, and built relationships with the residents. In all, the volunteers met and ministered to an estimated 300 plus people throughout Fayetteville.
Because of Beyond Our Walls, and other weekly outreach efforts, Central and Genesis Church have become synonymous with caring. There are those in our community who have started coming to church, felt welcomed for the first time in years, and have made commitments to follow Christ. Homes and families have been restored. Healing has taken place. And the reputation of Jesus Christ is elevated!
Thank you, Central and Genesis, and thanks be to God, for the opportunity we have to serve our community through Beyond Our Walls!
