Over Spring Break, U of A Wesley College Ministry moved into their new Wesley House! The new facility is located on Lindell Avenue in the heart of campus, just across from Futrall Hall and minutes from the U of A Student Union. The 8,000 square foot, two-floor facility has large and small group gathering spaces, a prayer chapel, student dormitory, kitchen, and office spaces for staff. The new Wesley House will be a hub for Christian community and our growing ministry outreach to more than 25,000 students at our beloved university. When asked about the new facility, student leader Wesley Wells said: “It is a great space where people will come to grow closer to each other and also to God.”
Of the approximately $2 million cost for construction and equipping of the facility, less than $350,000 remains to fully fund the project. This has been made possible by many faithful alumni and friends of our ministry, including those who gave to Wesley’s initial Capital Campaign, Central UMC in Fayetteville through its Extending Our Reach Campaign, the United Methodist Foundation of Arkansas, alumni and friends who claimed naming opportunities in the building, and so many others! Paula Agee, member of the Wesley Advisory Council, reflected on her involvement throughout the process: “Over the last three years, God has nurtured a rebirth of U of A Wesley’s presence on campus. His mission has touched the lives of the students, yes, but also the leaders in Central United Methodist, sister churches in the district and state, generous benefactors, and volunteers who serve and are served. Love has been at the center of the U of A Wesley mission and has always provided strength and direction. I am confident of an inspired and fruitful future. Thanks be to God! Love always wins!”
We have set the date for the Wesley House Consecration Service for Sunday, April 24, 2016, at 2:30 p.m. and hope you will plan to join us to celebrate the birth of what you have helped build! The service will be followed by a reception and tours of the facility.
We are excited that many will be honored and memorialized through naming opportunities in the facility during the Consecration service. Donations to help equip the new Wesley House can still be made by visiting uawesley.com. Additionally, two naming opportunities in the building remain. Interested persons may contact Kristi Button, Alumni & Development Coordinator, at email@example.com for more information.
We hope you will join us for a day of great celebration as we consecrate the Wesley House to God’s work in the lives of our university students!
