Everything about being a follower of Jesus Christ hinges on the resurrection. We are resurrection people. We profess, “Christ is Risen.” Our understanding of God is seen through the lense of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The Church has emphasized for 2,000 years the truth that Jesus conquered sin and death as he physically rose from the dead. It appeared as though all that Jesus taught and claimed had been buried with him. The disciples had fled and the Romans were convinced those who followed Jesus would fade away. However, the resurrection, promised by Jesus himself, changed human history forever! It emboldened the very ones who denied and abandoned him to stand firmly and shout, “He is Alive!”
The Apostle Paul declared that if the resurrection is not true, all Christians should be pitied. He then states emphatically, “But the resurrection is true!” Jesus did overcome everything and everyone who sought to destroy his message. God wins! Love prevails!
As we continue to prepare for the celebration of the resurrected Christ on Easter Sunday, let’s hold firm in the truth that God’s love can never be ultimately and always defeated. God reigns above all else, including our own sin and shame.
I hope you will participate in our Holy Week services that lead up to Easter Sunday. Going through the suffering of Jesus with this faith community makes Easter Sunday that much more meaningful.
I can’t wait to declare with all of you the greatest news in human history-HE IS RISEN!
