I want to be captivated.
I want our church to be captivated.
Captivated by the glory and wonder of our God – the God that created the universe. The God that holds us, holds it all, in His hands.
So often we treat God like a priority. We pray casually when we need something, or we halfway sing during worship while watching people around us. I’m guilty of this too. Church and my relationship with God can easily become a habit. It’s just something I do because, well, it’s always been a part of me. I take it for granted. I take Him for granted.
When we think about the Holiness of our Savior, the magnitude of what He’s done for us, it should knock us to our knees. The fact that we have the ability to pray directly to God, let alone the fact that He listens and answers, should leave us in complete awe.
I’m praying that we would become a church that lives captivated, a church that truly celebrates our God.
When we begin to live like we actually remember who God is and what He’s done for us, we can change the world. There is too much heartache and devastation happening around the world for the church to continue living comfortable lives acting casually about who God is.
I’m praying for a fire to burn deep within me, and I’m praying the same for you.
The hour is urgent on this earth. It’s not time to play games with God and live passive lives. It’s not an accident that we are alive at this point in time. Where we’re placed and the influence we have is not by chance. Let’s live with a sense of urgency. Let’s remember the God that we worship, and let’s live as if we believe what He says.
Let’s no longer go to church and visit God, let’s allow God to invade us. God is looking for a generation to walk with the Shepherd, not just know the right songs or pray the right prayers.
If you want to live captivated, but your soul feels dry and you don’t know where to start, here are some ideas that have helped me.
- Simply pray. You don’t have to have all of the right words. Just tell God what you’re feeling and what you’re longing for. Be honest with Him. I promise He can handle it. An important part of any relationship is open and honest communication. The same is true with our Savior.
- Open your Bible. Read scripture and learn who God is. The better you know Him, the more you’ll fall in love with Him.
- Be in community. In order for us to be a captivated church, we have to be a fellowshipping church. Get to know the people sitting next to you on Sunday morning or join a Life Group. Find people you can be open and vulnerable with. We need community to encourage us on our journey of knowing God.
Let’s live as if we actually believe God is who He says He is. When we do we will change the trajectory of the world.
