This January, U of A Wesley College Ministry will partner with United Methodist college students from Wesley ministries throughout Arkansas to do home repair ministry in Baton Rouge, LA, through a ministry called Revive225. The need is great due to the recent flooding that caused damage to over 60,000 homes in the area and Wesley students are excited to help.
Last January, U of A Wesley students went on a Winter Mission Trip to Memphis, Tennessee, to serve through a ministry called Service Over Self. Serving alongside United Methodist college students from all over the state of Arkansas, U of A Wesley students made an impact in Memphis by doing home repair ministry. Across the board, students that went on the trip have said that this trip was a great way to spend their winter break and that they are excited for upcoming Winter Mission Trip to Baton Rouge. Quinn Simkins, a U of A Wesley student and member of Central, said “Last January’s mission trip was an incredible experience. It was great to help out the people of Memphis, but I think my favorite part of the experience was the fundraising we did beforehand during Work Weekends. Through our Work Weekend projects we were able to get to know members of Central and serve so many people right here in Fayetteville.”
Work Weekends are U of A Wesley’s way of making the Winter Mission Trip affordable for students. The total cost of this January’s Winter Mission Trip is $300 per person, but we hope through Work Weekends and other fundraisers to raise enough money for students to participate for only $50 each. During these weekends, students will complete projects at homes and businesses in exchange for donations. Last year, projects included moving furniture, painting, raking, and yard work. A total of $2,850 was raised in just two weekends of projects.
This year’s Work Weekends will be November 10-13 and 17-20. To submit a project request, click here and fill out the project request form. The form includes steps to describe your project and what kind of team is being requested. Those requesting a team will also be prompted to pick out the days and times that a team can come. The deadline to submit a project is November 1st, 2016, and projects are assigned to teams based on a first come, first served basis! There is no specific amount charged to complete a project, but we ask that those sponsoring projects to make a donation to the Wesley Missions Fund.
